Located in northwest Wayne County and to the west of Detroit is Livonia Michigan, encompassing an area of 36 square miles and has as its boundaries Inkster Road on the east, Eight Mile Road on the north, Eckles Road and Haggerty Road on the west and Joy Road on the south.

Livonia’s students benefit from two fine public school systems – Livonia Public Schools and the Clarenceville School District — as well as 6 parochial elementary and 1 parochial senior high school. The City is home to two institutions of higher education, Madonna University and Schoolcraft Community College. Livonia has three municipal libraries.

A superior education system produces a skilled workforce. There are some 5,000 businesses in Livonia. Major local employers include Ford Motor Company, General Motors, United Parcel Services and St. Mary Mercy Hospital.

Livonia offers an array of recreational opportunities. The Livonia Parks and Recreation Department now oversees 46 developed municipal parks that encompass nearly 1,800 acres. Livonia takes pride in its 3 city owned and operated golf courses, twenty-two playgrounds, forty-two baseball diamonds, thirty-three tennis courts, and twenty-seven soccer fields.  The City also owns two indoor ice arenas with three sheets of ice.  Livonia’s state of the art Community Recreation Center is a 130,000 square-foot facility with two pools, four gyms, gymnastics center, climbing wall, indoor soft playground and fitness center with indoor track.  Outside features at this new facility include four soccer fields, in-lined skate rink, skateboard park, sand volleyball courts and water spray ground.

Livonia offers a number of entertainment venues, including upscale restaurants and movie theaters including the newest, a 20-screen state of the art facility. The two major shopping centers, Laurel Park Mall and Livonia Mall, each have major department store chains as their anchor store.

Livonia celebrates its birthday at Spree, an annual carnival at Ford Field, Farmington Road and Lyndon. Special entertainment includes amusement rides, food, fireworks and various attractions for the whole family. The hard work of the Spree Board and Committee, and many volunteers, helps to raise funds for the City of Livonia and for many non-profit projects and programs in the community – including annual Spree scholarships.
Greenmead Historical Village and the Wilson Barn preserve the past for both residents and visitors. Greenmead, a real jewel in the community, features some of Livonia’s original buildings from the 1850’s. The Fine Arts Festival, Arts and Crafts Festival and other special events are held at Greenmead. Wilson Barn is also the site of many events throughout the year, including flower sales, an antique car show and holiday programs.

The cultural fiber of Livonia is alive and thriving. Music and the Arts are celebrated and embraced. The Livonia Symphony Orchestra is 25 years old and still going strong. The LSO performs a full concert series and special events including the classics, semi-classic, Broadway and movie musicals and “pop” repertoire. The Livonia Civic Chorus is also an active group in the community. In addition to various performances throughout the City, the Chorus stages an annual spring musical, much to the delight of their enthusiastic fans. Livonia City Hall, dedicated on October 27, 1979, has become a dynamic symbol for the City and its people. Located near the intersection of Five Mile and Farmington Roads, the building is a five-story architectural landmark of concrete, steel and bronze glass windows. Also located at the Civic Center are the 16th District Court, Livonia Police Department Headquarters, Livonia Fire Department Station #1, Civic Center Library, and the Civic Park Senior Center.
